Description
Offering for sale my 1967 BSA Thunderbolt. Bought this bike 2 years ago as a project and it’s now up, running and road worthy. Prior to my buying it it was in a basement for about 35 years. As you see in the photos I have left most of the “patina” on the bike. It’s not a show bike but is a reliable rider. Starts the first or second kick every time. It looks like the sheet metal was repainted in the original colors at some point. Frame looks to be original paint. The tool kit is still there with most of the original tools. 2 sets of keys are included. Frame and engine numbers match and crankcase belly numbers match. All electrics function as they should. It is complete and original except for parts I replaced to make it road worthy. Starting price is what I have invested. You get my labor free.
The motor was rebuilt by Virginia Vintage Cycle, Bluemont, VA and included new rod bearings and bolts, sludge trap and plug, JRC pistons, rings, valves, valve springs, points and a high gear bearing. Bored .020 over. Receipt is included. The trip meter shows 128.3 miles which is the mileage on the motor.
Other parts replaced to make it road worthy include:
New Dunlop tires
Tubes
Rim strips
Rear shocks
Speedometer drive
Speedometer cable
O-ring petcock seals
Gas tank mounting bracket
Ignition switch (used)
Horn/dimmer switch
Levers
Mirror
Front wheel grease seals
Fork seals
Fork gaiters
1 fork tube
Fork sliders and all internal hardware (used)
Cylinder head (used).
Air filter
Spark plugs
Stator
Clutch plates
Clutch cable and grommet
Battery
Chain adjusters
Gas cap
Norton style spin on oil filter kit installed
Podronics voltage regulator installed
Gas tank cleaned and sealed
And a laundry list of other small bits and pieces.
Included with the bike are reproduction service and parts manuals, a few assorted gaskets and whatever else I find in the shop.
I have a new set of EMGO pipes and mufflers for it. We can discuss a price for those if you would like to buy them. They’re 0 from parts suppliers.
Disclosures:
It could use new throttle, air and front brake cables. I think the ones on it are original. They function as intended but are looking a little ratty.
The seat cushioning could also be replaced. It’s dried out and crumbling. I think the cover was replaced at some point. It’s in nice shape.
The foot peg rubbers could use refreshing.
The fender mounting nuts and bolts are not the correct Whitworth but have been replaced with stainless standard thread, 28 TPI and lock nuts. They are the correct diameter and length.
Not all the wiring connectors are the correct Lucas bullets.
The paint is nice but has a few nicks especially on the fender tips. The gas tank also has some small scratches. There is a very small dent in the rear fender at the end of the tail light mount and a scrape on the headlight ring (see photos).
I have the original title issued by PA in 1967. It was signed by the original and second owner and notarized in 1979. The second owner never bothered to get a new one in his name. Also have a bill of sale when the 2nd owner sold it to the 3rd owner in 2019 and when the 3rd owner sold it to me later in 2019.
Please contact me with any questions or if you need additional photos.
Happy bidding.
