This car has a very strong, smooth engine w/ minimal blow-by. The odometer shows 104k miles but is not turning over. It has spent nearly all of its life either in Texas (where it was purchased new in 1981) or California (where it’s two previous owners reside) and is a very clean, rust-free example. It has been previously repainted its original color (English Red) with some imperfections (water spots or oxidation) but presents very well. There are ample service records going up to 80,000 miles since new as well as the original owner’s manual, warranty cards, first aid kit, Hirschman antenna cleaning kit and factory build sheet. I have recently replaced the radiator, vacuum pump and also installed all-new front-end suspension components including upper and lower control arms, control arm bushings, center steering drag link, idler arm, tie rods and ball joints.
It’s a 40-year-old car and it’s not going to be perfect. But, if you’re looking for a solid example of a bygone era of Mercedes-Benz engineering, this is it.
