  • Condition: This clean and elegant 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SE has been owned by a good friend of ours, who brings us some really amazing European cars to sell over the years. He purchased this 300SE ten years ago from his neighbor in Los Angeles and he used it as an occasional commuter car. Recently he drove this car from Los Angeles to our facility here in St. Louis Missouri without a single issue. The car is very clean and well sorted for its age and mileage! Dressed in original black, (code DB-040), the car’s paint and trim are in overall very good order, especially for overall original paint. The body is straight and solid, the car’s engine bay is very tidy while the cargo area is in satisfactory order. The European body-colored bumpers with chrome and rubber wraparound strips fit tightly to the body and look so much better than the larger US market bumpers.

Favored by dictators, elected world officials, CEOs, oil tycoons real and fictional (e.g., J.R. Ewing) and celebrities, Mercedes-Benz’s S-class became the signature high-end sedan and limousine of the go-go 1980s and early 1990’s.
This clean and elegant 1990 Mercedes-Benz 300SE has been owned by a good friend of ours, who brings us some really amazing European cars to sell over the years. He purchased this 300SE ten years ago from his neighbor in Los Angeles and he used it as an occasional commuter car. Recently he drove this car from Los Angeles to our facility here in St. Louis Missouri without a single issue. The car is very clean and well sorted for its age and mileage!
This example, made in February 1990 at Mercedes’ Sindelfingen assembly plant, is one of 105,422 examples made between 1985 and 1991 and is considered a Second Series car. It left the assembly line with the following options – rear ashtray and cigar lighters (code 227); power front seats with memory settings (codes 241 and 242); sunroof (code 412); four-speed automatic transmission (code 420); Tempomat (cruise control, tilt steering column and airbag), (code 446); USA version (code 494); Becker Mexico Grand Prix electronic radio (code 519); power antenna (code 531); dual sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors (code 543); anti-theft system (code 551); automatic climate control (code 581); insulated glass with rear defroster (code 592); headlamp wiper/washer (code 600); courtesy lamps for front and rear doors (code 611); 15-hole light alloy rims (code 640); and rear reading lamps (code 877).
The 300SE rolls on Falken Sincera radials, size 215/70R15 at each corner that are slightly taller than factory size for a better ride for highway cruising. Each tire is mounted to a 15-hole factory chrome rim. The chrome wheels are in excellent, original order while the tires are in very good condition.
Under hood is a then-new and Mercedes legendary 3.0L SOHC straight six-cylinder inline engine (code M103.980) with electronic-mechanical fuel injection. Backing this motor is a four-speed automatic transmission (4G-TRONIC W4A 040) with standard and economy shift points. Driver convenience features are plentiful, including automatic climate control, power rack-and-pinion steering, power, four-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, power front seats with memory, tilt steering column, power antenna, rear defroster and headlamp wiper/washer.
Safety features include a driver’s side airbag; and anti-lock brakes; high-strength, low-alloy steel; seat belt pretensioners; and front- and rear-crumple zones.
    Competition to this 300SE in 1990 included Acura’s Legend, Audi’s 200 Turbo, Avanti’s Touring Sedan, BMW’s 735i, Cadillac’s Fleetwood and Sedan de Ville, Excalibur’s Series V Touring Sedan, Infiniti’s Q45, Jaguar’s XJ6, Lexus’ LS 400 and Lincoln’s Town Car.
These S-class Mercedes were automotive juggernauts, even in base trim. The bank vault solidity of the doors, trunk and hood, the quiet interior at speed and the overall fit and finish. If you’re looking for a classic cruiser that won’t yield gas mileage in the single digits, take a closer look at this Mercedes-Benz 300SE and stop by MotoeXotica Classic Cars today.
