    Description

1890's FRENCH BULL DOG GROWLER NODDER PAPER MACHE PULL TOY. Rare Roullet Decamps Automaton Growler Paper Mache French Bulldog Dog. Today we are happy to offer for sale a rare and truly wonderful antique Roullet & Decamps papier mache bulldog! Roullet & Decamps was a world-renowned French toy manufacturing company operating in the 19th and 20th centuries, which specialized in automata and papier mache. Founded in 1865 by Jean Roullet, the firm took the name Roullet-Decamps in 1889, 10 years after the marriage of the daughter of Jean Roullet to Ernest Decamps, a mechanical engineer by trade. The firm ceased operations in 1995. Collections of their wares are on exhibit to the public in two French museums in Falaise, Calvados and Souillac, Lot. This precious late 19th century toy dog is intricately and expertly crafted and detailed. The piece is made of papier mache, with a nicely shaped body showing molded ribs and with a brushed on flocked velvet "fur" finish. The dog features a sweet, life-like "nodding" face with black ears, celluloid/ceramic painted eyes. This is one of the rarer ones because it’s the only one I’ve seen that has the two large incisor teeth. Whether this is a rarer one or the others I’ve seen had them broken off. The doggie wears an original bristle and salmon-painted leather studded collar. Dog presents beautifully and is in very good antique, as-found condition, with surface wear/discoloration and patina commensurate with age and type of use. There are minor areas of loss mostly at the right front knee. The bobble-head mechanism works great as it did back than. This is truly a great opportunity to own a rare and amazing French papier mache toy! This adorable bulldog will make an outstanding addition to any antique and vintage toy collection. Dimensions: approx. 22 in depth, 13" in height, 6-1/2" in width. PLEASE NOTE: SHIPPING COST INCLUDES FULL INSURANCE. WE DO NOT MARK UP SHIPPING! Buy with confidence -- Item will be professionally packed to prevent damage in transit. Feel welcome to message us with further questions or requests for more images, and thank you for looking! Some more details: Lovely large Bulldog, pull his chain and he opens his mouth and makes a growling noise. The only thing that I see you maybe might want to get is a metal loop that would go on the end of the pull chain. Most I’ve seen have this but this one is missing. An easy pickup at your hardware store if you so desire. The head also moves from side to side also when the chain is pulled. Very realistic! He measures 22 inches in length (56cm) He is made from a paper mache material with glass eyes. Underneath his feet are wood wheels for him to roll along. Which they all do still work. Good working condition. Some obvious wear for age. All of the frill on his collar is still intact and in great condition. Some wear here and there but very very little for being made of paper mache and being 130 years old. But generally good for that age. Please study pictures for more details. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail or FedEx.
FEEDBACK POLICY: I have my automated system setup to leave positive feedback for a buyer after payment has been received and after I have received positive feedback from the buyer. I have it set up this way as I have no way of knowing if a transaction is complete until I receive positive feedback from you. If for ANY reason at all you feel that I deserve ANYTHING but positive feedback, please contact me PRIOR to leaving the feedback. I will do everything in my power to make sure the transaction is completed in a satisfactory way for you. Please keep in mind that in some situations that my options are limited, but a refund will always be offered for a returned product. In my opinion, a full refund is still a positive transaction as I have worked with you to make you no worse off than before the transaction was initiated. Please do not leave something other than positive feedback and then contact me with the issue. With ebay's new feedback rules, neutral ratings come off a seller's feedback score in the same manner that negative feedbacks do. So, again, I ask for you to contact me with any issues prior to leaving feedback so I can make the transaction a positive experience for you. Thanks
