Laser IRAM Welding (INFRARED ASSEMBLY METHOD)
Branson laser systems use a process called Simultaneous Through Transmission Infrared Welding.  The process passes laser radiation through one plastic component (transmissive) and the energy is absorbed by the mating component (absorptive).  This absorption results in the heating and metling of the two interfaces.  With the application of a controlled clamp force the parts are joined.
The major breakthrough in Laser technology is the ability to illuminate the entire weld surface simultaneously as compared to other techniques that rely on scanning the weld joint.  Advantages include:  1)  Superior weld quality;  2)  Minimal flash and no particulate;  3)  Capable of welding other materials other joining technologies cannot;  4)  3D joint configurations are weldable;  5)  Pre-assembled parts can be welded; and 6) Fast cycle time.
