Quite rare antique thick paper mache toy horse.  At 27"x 25"x 9" (with wood base it is approx: 28"x 9") these are tough to find.  Most in this size are from France or Germany, but not 100% sure which in this case.  The toy's base most likely had wheels at one time, but it is firmly bolted to its wood base.  It was either a pull toy or store display, but
not
a sit on toy.
The most similar one we could find to this, is listed at approx 00 on eBay now and from France, but in worse condition than this offering. Just the head of one like this sold for 9 on eBay a while ago and was marked as French.
We have sold some of the nicest antique horse toys, rockers, pull toys and other on eBay over the years and this one is a another gem.  It is on a solid wood stand as seen in pictures.  It may also have been a store window display (sales sample) to advertise the smaller pull toys, but that is a guess. The total height is approx: 28" including base.
The horse body is a heavy paper mache that at one time may have had a blown on fuzz to mimic hair, but it has mostly worn off over the years.  There is a felt blanket under the saddle. The saddle is either leather or faux leather.  The harness has leather straps, the belly strap is faux leather as are the ears.  The eyes are a hard plastic. The tail and mane appear to be real horse hair. This may have had metal stirrups, but they are gone. There is a small hole in one side as shown in pictures but it does not effect the appeal of the horse.
